The Relation between Coronary Artery Dilation and Platelet Parameter Changes in Children with Kawasaki Disease

2007
Objective To investigate the relation between coronary artery dilation(CAD) and platelet parameter changes in children with Kawasaki disease(KD).Methods The platelet total(PLT),mean platelet volume(MPV),platelet distribution width(PDW) and their changes were measured by Xe-2100 full-automatic hemocytometer in 54 children with acute KD.The results were compared with those in 30 cases of normal children. The level of CAD was determined by the cardiology ultrasonic examination. Results The levels of increasing PLT and decreasing PDW in children with acute KD were higher than that in control group(P0.05).The level of MPV in children with CAD was higher than those with no CAD involvement. There was significant difference between two groups(P0.01).Conclusion The platelet changes positively correlated with CAD in children with acute KD,so examining the changes of platelet parameter is helpful to diagnose, estimate prognosis and guide the treatment of KD.
