Spectroscopic and structural characterization of zinc barium tellurite glass

2018
Abstract The spectroscopic and structural characterization of the glass system (90-x) TeO 2 –10 ZnO–xBaO, where 25≤ x ≤ 35 (mol%) were prepared with a classic melting method from pure oxides. X-ray diffraction studies were performed in order to confirm the amorphous nature of the samples. The analysis of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results show the bonding of the glass samples. The FTIR spectrum of the sample depicts that the glass network is built up of tetragonal TeO 2 of D 2 4 symmetry where the Te atom is 4-fold coordinated. The color of these glasses were confirmed by CIE L∗a∗bcolor coordinate and the brightness (L) were changes from green to red, to dark red as BaO concentration increases. The refractive index increase when barium ion (Ba 2+ ) increase.
