Multi-modal Collinear Ternary Fission

True ternary fission with the decay of heavy nuclei into three fragments of similar size has been observed in recent years. This decay mode has been predicted in the last 3–4 decades in several works to be collinear. The theoretical analysis, which has been done in the last years emphasizes this aspect and with the use of the potential-energy surfaces the various decay modes can be characterized.
