Cantharocybe habibii: a new species in the genus Cantharocybe

2021
A new species Cantharocybe habibii is described from lowland northern Pakistan based on morphological and molecular data. Molecular phylogenetic analyses were based on the nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacers (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 = ITS) and D1–D2 domains of the 28S region. The species is characterized by a broadly convex to hemispheric pileus, covered with light reddish-brown to dark reddish-brown fibrils, with straight margin, basidiospores are comparatively larger (10.5–12.5 × 7.5–9.0 µm) and ellipsoid and distinct caulocystidia with apical and lateral appendages, some appendages with a secretory vesicle. Morphological comparison of C. habibii with known species of the genus is provided.
