Current and Future Uses of Medical Cannabis for Adults

This chapter will provide the reader with a general overview on the medical use and indications for cannabis use for adults. This includes the use of both FDA and DEA approved medications, as well as cannabis formulations available in local dispensaries throughout the United States. Content in this chapter is designed teach the reader about indications for use and dosages available, where applicable, based on currently available research. After reading this chapter an individual should be able to cite current available medical literature to help patients choose cannabis products with better treatment outcomes in a shorter duration of time and minimize potential side effects. At the end of the chapter, we will look at future directions for cannabis as a treatment strategy for the current opiate crisis. This chapter shows there is a lack in our current education and that it is necessary for clinicians to be able to educate patients and improve patient care.
