Pathogenic analysis of infants and children with diarrhea in Jiangbei District of Ningbo City

Objective:To learn the pathogenic components and epidemic situation of infants and children with diarrhea in Jiangbei District,Ningbo City;to provide grounds for preventive measures of diarrhea.Methods:Collect 265 samples of feces of infants and children with diarrhea in Jiangbei District through 2007 to 2008,Culturing six major intestinal pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella,Shigella,Comma bacillus,E.coli O157:H7.Then apply the method of ELISA for instant detection of rotavirus;apply the method of PAGE to detect nucleic acid of rotavirus;apply the method of PT-PCR to amplify and detect rotavirus.Results: Wo strains of bacterial are detected among 265 samples,with infection rate of 0.75%.Respectively 86 and 84 samples are detected positive with rotavirus by methods of ELISA and PT-PCR,with positive rates 33.21% and 31.70% respectively,displaying no statistic differentiation.Rotavirus detected by PAGE method all fall into group A rotavirus.No combined infection of bacterial and virus is found.Positive rate of rotavirus among diarrhea patients under the age of 2 is 78.57%.Conclusion:Rotavirus is the major pathogen causing diarrhea among infants and children in Jiangbei District,especially group A rotavirus.Children less than 2 years old fall into vulnerable population against rotavirus infection.We should strengthen monitoring against rotavirus among children suffering diarrhea.
