Transportable VLF Transmitter

1974
Very-low-frequency magnetospheric transmission experiments have been conducted by The Aerospace Corporation between Port Heiden, Alaska (L = 2.9) and Dunedin, New Zealand in August 1972 and between Anchorage, Alaska (L = 4.1) and Dunedin, New Zealand and Campbell Island in August and September 1973. A transportable very-low-frequency (TVLF) transmitter system was used for the transmissions from Port Heiden and Anchorage. The unique feature of this transmitter is the antenna which is a conducting cable suspended by a helium-filled balloon.
