PRECURSOR DECAY IN SINGLE CRYSTAL LITHIUM FLUORIDE

2008
The method of analyzing an evolving unsteady plane wave front induced in single‐crystal lithium fluoride upon impact is described. By having an insight into calculated results more profoundly, three important results are further obtained. One is that the rear portion of the near‐steady precursor after the occurrence of the kink is in a plastic state a little. The second is that steeper decay curve over Sano's decay curve provides greater plastic strain rate in the follower The third is that in an early stage of decay, plastic strain rates are much lower on Sano's decay curve than on Asay's decay curve.
