Prototype System for User-Interface-Design Recommendation Using Collaborative Filtering

We propose a user interface (UI) design support system. Our system recommends a UI design that corresponds to a given function by applying collaborative filtering to the relationship between product functions and operational methods. We applied the system to the UI design for the 41 functions of a digital camera. For evaluation, we calculated the distance between the recommended UI design and the UI design implemented by the designer. The average was 0.19 in the 0. 00 - 1.00 distance scale, and the results suggest that the system could provide a satisfactory degree of validity and effectiveness in the UI design.
