Understanding the Latrobe Valley Regional Rehabilitation Strategy and why it is essential

2019
The Latrobe Valley Regional Rehabilitation Strategy (LVRRS) seeks to set a safe, stable and sustainable landform for the Latrobe Valley’s three coal mine voids and surrounding areas. The strategy is currently under preparation, involving extensive geotechnical, groundwater and surface water studies, the assessment of potential regional impacts on the environment, and the considerationof future land use options. When completed by June 2020, the strategy will provide the Victorian Government and the community with the information required to understand the potential regional impacts of filling (either partially or fully) the mine voids with water to create pit lakes. Engagement with the community, the mine owners and other key stakeholders is an important element of the preparation of the LVRRS.
