DECONSTRUCTING SOCIO-ECONOMIC INTEGRATION OF POLISH MIGRANT WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES IN ROGALAND

2013
This study is the final report of a research internship of the master student Oleksandr Ryndyk at the Senter for interkulturell kommunikasjon (SIK) in Stavanger in August-November 2012. It offers a regional perspective from the Rogaland county in south-western Norway with a particular focus on its most urbanized area, the Greater Stavanger Region. Because of its booming oil economy, the construction industry in the region has experienced a strong impulse for expansion in the last decade. Many new jobs created in the construction industry have been filled by Polish migrant workers. In addition, Rogaland county is also one of Norway’s major industrial and agricultural zones with ample employment opportunities; the fact which makes it very attractive for labour migrants. Given the favourable structure of its economy, Rogaland county represents a particularly interesting research setting where Polish labour migrants are concerned Internship supervisor : Gunhild Odden
