Vaginal tubal ligation.

1980
Vaginal tubal ligations are not widely used by physicians in the past because of the large number of reported complications varying from an incidence rate of 0 to 20% and a failure rate ranging from 0 to 2.6%. This paper reviews 121 cases of internal vaginal tubal ligations done by fimbriectomy at the Kennestone Hospital in Georgia between the years 1971 and 1979. The modified technique is described. Mean age of patients was 31 with a range of 19 to 46. Mean number of living children was 2. Average hospital stay was 2 days. Immediate febrile complications occurred in only 1 patient who had a urinary tract infection after surgery. All other complications were minor. Vaginal tubal ligation is effective economical rapid (15 to 25 minutes operating time) safe and simple with short convalescence period.
