The effect of quinalphos on blood and brain esterase activity in chicken

2003
Chicks were dosed with quinalphos 1 mg, 2 mg, 4 mg/kg body wt. for 28 days and observed for another 28 days to study the reversal effect. The symptoms were loss of balance, hyper excitability, in-coordination, marked tremors, convulsion, stiffness of neck, thick mucoid discharge from the mouth, gasping and greenish white diarrhoea. The severity of symptoms was found to be increased on higher doses of quinalphos. Marked inhibition of cholinesterase activity ws recorded in all the treated groups and this was not dose dependent. The ChE activity of blood and plasma as well as erythrocyte and brain was of the same pattern.
