The application of PDCA cycling management in preventing falls of hospitalized patients with high risk of falling down in hepatology department

Objective To explore the effect of PDCA cycling management in reducing the incidence of falling for hospitalized patients with high risk of falling down in hepatology department and in nursing management for preventing falls. Methods Hospitalized patients with high risk of falling down in hepatology department were investiged by PDCA program to find out the common causes for falling and relevant preventive measures were formulated, including setting up the management team of fall, preparing the relevant health education materials, posting warning labels in the ward area, screening risks of falling for hospitalized patients, informing the patients with high risk of falling and their families and signing consent form, and conducting targeted health education for patients with high risk of falling.And relevant preventing measures were taken and the effects were evaluated. Results Number of patients who fell among the hospitalized patients with high risk of falling down in hepatology department was decreased from 17 in 2014 to 1 in 2015 after the implementation of PDCA cycling management and the risk rate was only 0.064 ‰. The patients' safety were guaranteed. Conclusions PDCA cycling management can reduce the risk of falling for hospitalized patients with high risk of falling down in hepatology department.
