Pathogenic Bacteria and Drug Sensitivity in Patients with Chronic Rhinosinusitis

2010
OBJECTIVE To study the bacterial distribution and the characterstics of drug resistance in chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS).METHODS Bacterial cultures for aerobes and anaerobes were performed on mucosa specimens from 90 patients, then the drug resistance of positive isolates were tested.RESULTS Totally 61 strains of bacteria were isolated from above-mentioned specimens and the positive rate of CRS was 66.7%.Coagulase-negative Staphylococcus were the most common isolates, followed by enteric bacilli.Staphylococcus epidermidis,S.haemolyticus,Enterobacter aerogenes and Klebsiella pneumoniae were frequent. There were 26 isolates of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus(MRS,72.2%) from 36 Staphylococcus isolates. The drug sensitivity rate of staphylococci to vancomycin was 100.0%,tetracycline 83.3%,rifampin 91.7%,ceftazidime 100.0%,imipenem 100.0% and to cefepime was 100.0%.CONCLUSIONS The bacteria isolated from CRS patients in this region are mainly aerobic. So the clinical laboratory should make the statistics of drug resistance rate and the changes of drug resistant strains in time.Monitoring the bacterial drug resistance trends in a systematic and periodic way can provide a reliable clinical medication.
