Study on the mooring structure of floating platform in a frozen river

2004
The Ishikari River which runs across the central district of Hokkaido Island had once been an inland waterway to transport coals and farming products in early 20th century. This river has the one of the best circumstances for inland navigation in Japan so that the authors are proposing to develop inland waterway system in this river again. As this river locates in northern district in Japan, its freezes in winter and water level used to become low. To the contrary, the water level rises considerably in thawing season. According to the changes in water level, it is considered to employ the floating platform as for mooring and loading facilities. However, the drag force caused by water flow and ice force should be considered in the structural design. This work investigates the stability of floating body against eccentric loads consists of drag force of wind and current, cargo handling equipment load and ice loads. And also simulation of floating platform motions in waves, current, wind and ice load was carried out. As a result, a brief mooring structure was discussed.
