Design of Meta-surface to Reduce Reflection Loss of Multi-layer Dielectric Plate by Deriving Optimum Equivalent Circuit in Transmission Line Model

2020
Single-layer or multi-layer dielectric plate suffers from reflection loss depending on the electrical thickness in its frequency. Reflection from Meta-surface cancels reflections from the dielectric boundaries. No loss Meta-surface can be represented by pure shunt susceptance in the transmission line model. Contour map of reflection loss of the dielectric plate can be derived as function of the susceptance and the frequency. Required frequency dependency of the susceptance for the isolated Meta-surface is obtained from the map. Dimension of Meta-surface can be optimized only by electromagnetic simulation of isolated Meta-surface which is quite simple compared with the optimization of the Meta-surface in the multi-layer structure. The design procedure is summarized in this paper.
