ISDB multimedia services and multiplexing system

The use of digital technology in the fields of broadcasting, telecommunications, computers and electronic publishing is destined to make great progress. Most of all, the multimedia interactive characteristics of computers will affect other information media significantly and provide for the technical integration of those information media. ISDB (integrated services digital broadcasting) has been proposed as the broadcasting infrastructure for the coming `multimedia era', which is total digital broadcasting and integrates many kinds of services into a single broadcasting channel. (See Yanagimachi and Harada (1990), Yanagimachi and Ishida (1992).) In the present paper, concepts, service images and requirements for ISDB are discussed, and an outline of an experimental system is reported.
