Automatic Calibration of 3D Finite Differences Model Parameters— Application to the Finnsjon Site (Sweden)

1993
Calibration of 3D finite difference model parameters is usually carried out using a noon-automatic 'manual' procedure until observed heads, for instance, are simulated with a sufficient accuracy. Initial values of parameters (K and S S ) are often the results of pumping test interpretation when available. This paper concerns an automatic method of calibrating K and S-S/ parameters on observed head variations and its application to the FINNSJON site in Sweden. This site is one of the INTRAVAL cases and the corresponding results have been presented at the INTRAVAL San Antonio meeting in November 1992. After simplification of the actual fracture field to define global K and S S equal value areas, 3-D simulations show a good agreement between observed and calculated drawdowns for the 5 observation boreholes.
