In the work reported here an investigation has been made of the effect of the heat treatment conditions on the resistance of steel 09G2S to brittle failure as evaluated from tensile tests of smooth and notched specimens and impact bending tests with determination of the nature of the fracture and of the work of crack growth (KCT impact strength).
