Novel Criterion of Pilot Optimization in Underwater Acoustic OFDM Systems based on Compressed Sensing

2019
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technology has been widely used in underwater acoustic (UWA) communication for the characteristics of high spectrum utilization and strong multipath fading resistance. The pilot position optimization problem based on compressed sensing channel estimation in OFDM systems is examined in this paper. To optimize the performance of sparse channel estimation, a novel criterion to measure the reconstruction property of measurement matrix is proposed. We use elements of covariance matrix represent the correlation between columns of measurement matrix. Simulation results demonstrate that the optimal pilot pattern corresponding to our criterion can get lower bit error rate (BER) and mean square error (MSE) than other pilot patterns.
