Flywheel may clean up battery use, powering electric vehicles for greener' transportation

1993
Kinetic energy storage is not a new idea. However, the necessary masses and rotating speeds required to provide continued functional energy storage for widespread application have evaded scientists. Now, advances in materials and computer technology may bring this idea a little closer to reality in the form of the flywheel battery. One benefit of such innovation would be to make electric vehicles a more viable transport option, something that chemical batteries have not yet made possible.
