Coal Resources, Production and use in India

Abstract: This chapter discusses coal resources, reserves, production and use in India, covering both thermal and metallurgical coal, with particular focus on the importance of increasing coal washing. After an introduction linking energy supply to economic growth, initial sections review Indian domestic coal resources and reserves, India’s current and future energy needs and how they can be met. The later sections of the chapter focus on coal washing as a method of increasing domestic coal use. Key drivers and barriers are outlined, together with technologies.
