Process parameter optimization and characterization studies of dissimilar friction stir welded advancing side AA6082-T6 with retreating side AA2014-T87

Abstract This research gives the detail work of process parameters on welding of AA6082–T6 and AA2014–T87 results on the tensile and microstructural characterization. The L9 orthogonal array was employed for evaluating of three process parameters such as rotational speed (A), traverse speed (B), tilt angle (C) on the optimization of strength properties of the weld. The samples were welded using tilt angle (A) as 0°, 1°, and 2°, rotation speed (B) of 800, 1000, 1200 rpm and welding speed (C) of 70, 80, 90 mm/min. The final results were arrived by means of ANOVA of tensile strength and microstructural characterizations were considered. SEM images were also analysed and correlated with the tensile and hardness properties of dissimilar joint of AA6082 and AA2014.
