Prevalencia y Caracterización de Daño Renal en pacientes con Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2, Honduras

Objetive. To determine the prevalence and characteristics of anxiety and depression disorders in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methodology: The National Institute of Diabetics, Honduras, is a center for research, education and care for patients with DM2.  Cross-sectional and descriptive study, with a universe of 12,220 patients with a diagnosis of T2DM between March to May 2019, with a sample of 372 cases, calculated with Open Epi from Epi Info 7.2, 95% confidence level, with simple random sampling. Inclusion criteria: both sexes, between 18 and 90 years, more than one year of diagnosis of DM2 and agree to participate with informed consent. Results: 100% were patients diagnosed with DM2, with a sample of 372 cases, mean age of 57 years, 81.1% of women and 75.9% of men presented at least one trait of depression, as well as, 95.8% of women and 93.8% of men, had some trait of anxiety. 4.6% of cases did not have any trait of depression or anxiety. 79.0% presented some trait of depression and anxiety. Conclusions: Patients with Diabetes mellitus type 2 have a greater predisposition to mood disorders, due to the emotional impact that the disease represents, this predisposition is greater in the first years after the diagnosis of DM2, as well as it has a higher prevalence in Men.
