Fundamentals of High-Frequency CMOS Analog Integrated Circuits: Frequency-selective RF circuits

2009
LC resonance circuits have been used extensively in high-frequency circuit design since the very beginning of electronics engineering, to obtain a narrow-band frequency response centered on a specified but changeable tuning frequency. In this chapter, the resonance circuits are investigated in detail, emphasizing the problems related to the low-Q inductances that are one of the most important components of the integrated HF circuits. The tuned load common-source and cascode amplifiers, the staggered tuning technique to obtain a Butterworth or Chebyshev type flat-top frequency response, the classical double-tuned amplifiers and Q-enhancement techniques are explained with a design-oriented approach. The gyrator circuits that help to realize high-value on-chip inductances are also investigated in this section.
