A New Concept Environmental Control System with Energy Recovery Considerations for Commercial Aircraft

This paper presents a review on the system types and the latest progress in air cycle environmental control system (ECS) for commercial aircraft, including the pressurized air source of cabin fresh air. Then, a new concept environmental control system with the energy recovery unit based on the typical two-wheel bootstrap system is introduced. A detailed system structure and thermal process is descripted.System analysis is made based on the enthalpy method as well. At last, comparison is made between the in use method and the new concept system with the penalty analysis method. Research indicates that the new concept environmental control system can fulfill the system design requirement and decrease the system energy consumption at the same time.
