Ozet Gunumuzde tetrasiklinler ve turevleri antimikrobiyal ozelliklerinin yanisira antienzimatik ozellikleri ile de dikkat cekmektedirler. TetrasIklin molekulunde yapilan kimyasal degisiklikler sayesinde antimikrobiyal ozellik tasimayan ancak doku kaynakli kollajenaz enziminin aktivitesini baskilayabilecek analoglar hazirla-nabilmektedir. Ayni etki tetrasiklinin dusuk doz uygulamalarinda da gozlenebilmektedir. Bu etki sayesinde periodontal hastalikta doku yikiminda rol oynayan biyokimyasal mekanizmalarin belirli asamalari kontrol alanda tutularak uygulanan geleneksel periodontal tedavi yaklasimlarinin etkinligi arttirilabilecektir. Abstract Tetracyclines and its derivatives are being popular zoith their antienzymatic properties besides their antimicrobial effects. Chemical modifications of the tetracycline molecule enabled to develop tetracycline analogs capable of inhibiting tissue originated collagenase without exhibiting antimicrobial properties. Similar phenomena have been observed with low dose application of tetracycline. These properties would alter the biochemical tissue distinction cascade leading to more efficient response to conventional periodontal therapy.
