Thermodynamic analysis of the siliconizing of iron alloys

Today a great deal of materials science research is being conducted into the introduction of certain alloying elements into the surface layers of materials as a means of forming various films, coatings, and composites on them. In the field of chemicothermal treatment (CTT) of metals [i] and in semiconductor technology [2] an important role is played by processes of transport of silicon and its deposition from the gaseous phase on the surface of a part (basis metal). Very often these processes involve transport (exchange--transport) reactions with the participation of volatile halide, especially chloride, compounds.
