Ensuring of Radiation Safety when Decommissioning, Dismantling and Recycling Nuclear Submarines

Experimental complex recycling of ships and vessels with nuclear power facilities (NPFs) started in accordance with the RF Government decision and was performed at enterprises of the Chief Directorate of Shipbuilding Industry under the Russian Federation State Committee for Defense Industry and based on coastal and floating engineering facilities and conventional technologies providing: dismantlement of equipment, including reactor compartments, with the possible opening of technological media; “sanitary admission” regime for personnel involved in work; individual and collective dosimetry control; radiochemical and radiometric control via sampling of technological media of NPF circuits and environmental objects; decontamination work using up-to-date technologies and the partial reprocessing of liquid radioactive waste (LRW); centralized gathering of radioactive waste (RW) of all kinds.
