The invention relates to a device for the selective detection of a gas component or a concentration of a gas component in a gas to be examined with a photonic crystal (1) having a periodically arranged structure of free-standing columns (2), whose base material is at least one metal or metal alloy wherein spaces between the columns (2) allow passage of the gas to be examined. The photonic crystal (1) has pre-defined impurities, through which at least one resonator (3) is formed whose resonant frequency is in a frequency range, which is absorbed by the gas component to be detected. A heater (5) heating at least part of the columns (2) and at least one detector element (2 '') coupled in the heated state under the action of the gas to be examined in the resonator (3) located energy. The device is characterized by extremely small dimensions and very low energy consumption.
