Use UCAP for sulfur recovery

1979
Described is a process that can simplify sulfur recovery and enhance environmental protection. The UCAP process, developed by the Union Carbide Corp., selectively removes sulfur dioxide from tail gas at Claus and sulfuric acid plants, from flue gas in heaters and boilers, and from off-gas in smelters, steel plants, and metal processing installations. When integrated with a single-stage Claus unit, UCAP can process acid gas streams into bright yellow sulfur. Development, operation, and applications of the UCAP and Integrated UCAP processes are described. The economics and applications of each process are presented.
