Avaliação de quatro protocolos terapêuticos para a sinusite pós-descorna plástica em bovinos (1998-2008)

2009
Plastic dehorning in adult cattle may result in several trans and postoperative complications. Sinusitis is a sequelae that results from an inflammatory process in which the exposed frontal sinus is affected. This study evaluates the efficacy of treatment protocols. These included sodium hypochlorite, policresulen, povidone-iodine, and isotonic sodium chloride solutions. A total of 60 cows were divided into four experimental groups of 15 animals each: GI, GII, GIII, and GIV. During the opening of the frontal sinus to begin local treatment, attempts to identify foreign bodies, bone fragments, grass stems, suture material, and wood splints were made. Drainage of mucous-purulent liquid and removal of excess solutions were facilitated by the animal’s lateral head rotation and placement of the frontal sinus gap as ventrally as possible. The results of a chi-square test revealed significant differences between treatments. Sodium hypochlorite and povidone-iodine were the most effective agents, and therefore are recommended as regards sinusitis therapeutic protocols.
