[Phyllodes tumors of the breast: 14 cases]

2001
Phyllodes tumors of the breast are fibroepithelial tumors which resemble fibroadenoma tumors but they are distinguished by significant cellularity of the connective component. This article involves a retrospective study involving 14 cases of women collated at the University Clinic I. Soiussi Maternity in Morocco during a period of 8 years (1991-1998). The authors of this article used patient files to determine their identity reason for hospitalization the clinical characteristics of the tumor the data from mammography ultrasound aspiration cytology and the therapeutic modalities and course of this disease. Analysis of these components showed that the average age of the patients was 35.5 years 43% of them were nulliparous only 1 case of phyllodes tumor of the right breast occurred during a pregnancy and more than half of the cases were seen at an advanced stage. The incidence of malignant phyllodes tumors was 14.2% and the association with fibroadenoma was noted in only one case. Treatment was exclusively surgical based on a large tumorectomy in 8 cases a simple mastectomy in 5 cases and a mastectomy with lymph node removal in one case. The course was marked by local recurrences in 2 cases and by one case of death in the other cases it was good and without recurrences or metastases. In conclusion for optimal treatment it is necessary to conduct an extemporaneous examination for a presumed fibroadenoma all the more so with perimenopausal women.
