A foamy virus of possible human origin isolated in BHK-21 cells.

A syncytium forming virus (EdV) was isolated in Edinburgh following the inoculation of BHK-21 cultures with peripheral blood cells from a patient with leukaemia. The morphology and morphogenesis of the virus was found to be indistinguishable from the simian foamy agents.
