Anomalous angular distributions and the unique structure of the l=1 transition amplitude

The anomalous l=1 angular distributions found in heavy-ion-induced single-particle transfer reactions have been studied. The existence of a simple but special form of the l=1 transition amplitude is pointed out. The sensitivity of this transition amplitude to the geometry of the exist-channel distorting potential is demonstrated and a possible explanation of the observed anomalies in terms of this sensitivity is discussed.
