A model for lower deflagration limit and burning rate of catalyzed ammonium perchrolate
1988
An analytical model has been developed to describe the burning behavior of catalyzed ammonium perchlorate(AP) for pressures below 10 MPa. The increase in both the burning rate and the lower deflagration limit pressure(LDP) of AP with catalyst content is investigated. The peculiar increase of LDP of AP by catalysts can be understood on the basis of an inherent instability of the condensed phase deflagration wave decoupled from the gas phase deflagration wave. The effects of external heat addition, preheating and the fuel added to AP on the LDP are also explained using the model.
