PROGNOSTIC STUDY FOR EACH FACTOR AND SUBDIVIDED STAGES OF STAGE IV GASTRIC CANCER

1986
We studied the prognosis of 90 resected Stage IV gastric cancer cases, in regard to curability, each factor and subdivided stage by using the cumulative survival rate. For all 90 cases, the 5-year survival rate (5-y.s.r.) was 8.0%. The curability was 37.5% for the curative resection cases (n=18) and 2.3% for the non-curative resection cases (n=72). The prognosis of curative resection cases was significantly better than that of the non-curative resection cases (p<0.01). For prognosis in regard to each factor, resectable S3 (n=19) was better than non-resectable S3 (n=20), N3 (n=30) was better than N4 (n=8), P1 (n=30) was better than P2, 3 (n=20), and H1 (n=7) was better than H2, 3 (n=7). In regard to the number of factors, prognosis of cases with one factor (n=44) was significantly better than that of cases with two or more factors (n=46) (p<0.02). In stage IV-a (resectable S3, N3, P1, H1) (n=46), 1-y.s.r. was 59.0%, 2-y.s.r. was 47.2%, 3-y.s.r. was 40.0% and 5-y.s.r. was 18.2%. For stage IV-b (non-resectable S3, N4, P2, 3, H2, 3) (n=44), 1-y.s.r. was 17.1%, 2-y.s.r. was 0%. Prognosis of IV-a was significantly better than IV-b (p<0.01).
