The Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique: A State of the Art Review

This paper is a comprehensive review of the development of the synthetic aperture focusing technique (SAFT) for ultrasonic applications. A survey of the SAFT literature is presented, with particular attention devoted to emerging areas of SAFT utilization. The basic concepts behind SAFT are presented, along with a basic application of SAFT to the imaging of flat bottom holes in an aluminum plate.
