Sublimation of carbon grains in a plasma flow generated by an RF induction plasmatron

2007
The kinetics of carbon sublimation in a plasma flow generated in an rf induction plasmatron is considered. The set of basic equations describing the sublimation of grains in a high-temperature gas flow is analyzed, the main dimensionless characteristic parameters of the problem are determined, and the possible ranges of their variation are estimated. The problem is solved by the method of direct statistical Monte Carlo simulation for different plasma-forming gases in a wide range of parameters (the pressure, velocity, and temperature) of the plasma flow. The results obtained can be used to optimize the processes of industrial production of carbon (and, possibly, other) nanostructures in high-power electric-arc and rf plasmatrons.
