Malrotation in the newborn period with jaundice

1963
Abstract An instance of malrotation of the intestine associated with indirect hyperbilirubinemia has been presented, and compared with a similar previously described clinical entity in newborn infants with pyloric stenosis. History and records indicate that this infant was not jaundiced at birth, but became jaundiced seven days later at which time regurgitation of food developed. Roentgenographic examination after admission to the hospital revealed obstruction of the duodenum and a cecal shadow in the right upper quadrant. A diagnosis of malrotation was made. At operation adhesive bands passing across the second portion of the duodenum from the cecum were severed. Jaundice faded rapidly after operation.
