Evolution of leadership vision in digital transformation of organisations

2018
Capacity of organisations to respond to digital opportunities and challenges is often their competitive differentiator. Recent research points to the advent of complex challenges due to digital transformation of organisations. Despite the rise in the number of organisations that have pursued digital transformation yet research publications that make up extant research in the domain is embryonic. Using Westerman, et al.’s (2014) construct of turning technology into business transformation as a theoretical lens, we argue that organisations that are able to place digital as the core starting point from where their future strategy and leadership vision would emerge, are the ones that are likely to succeed in articulating a digital differentiator. By using a qualitative approach of thematically analysing principal facets as prescribed by the theoretical lens, we benchmarked current progress towards digital transformation with their correspondent levels of vision and communication strategies.
