EFFECT OF ALTERNATING VOLTAGE MODULATIONON THE PASSIVITY AND THE FEATURE OFPASSIVE FILM OF STAINLESS STEELS

2009
The effect of alternating voltage electric field on the corrosion potential, the passivity and the features of passive film of stainless steels is reviewed, and the results show that AV usually destroys passive film, decreases the passive potential region and causes a shift in the corrosion potential. However, some experimental results have evidenced that the overall properties of the passive film of stainless steels formation under alternating voltage electric field controlled by adequate parameters(i.e.,alternating voltage modulation) are enhanced by a large scale, such as increasing the stability, the breakdown potential(E b) and the resistance against cathodic reductive dissolution of the passive film. The mechanism of passive film formation under alternating voltage (AV) modulation condition is also summarized in this paper. These indicate there is particular research value in this field.
