Antiulcer activity of polyprenols extracted from cotton leaves

2012
Extensive experimental and clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy of plant-based medicines (both as individual compounds and as total extracts) for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcer disease [1, 2]. Our previous reports also identified antiulcer activity with phytoecdysteroids [3], flavonoid compounds [4], a complex esters fraction from banana leaves [5], and lipid concentrates from potato and carrot tops [6]. Continuing our studies in this direction, the present report presents data obtained from studies of the antiulcer activity of polyprenes (PP) extracted from cotton leaves. Increased interest in plant PP in recent years has arisen because of their variety and quite high biological activities, which open up the potential for using them to create new therapeutic compounds [7].
