Measurements of quasi‐elastic pion single charge exchange on 3He at Tπ=245 MeV

Differential cross sections for the 3He(π±,π0) and 3He(π±,π0p) reactions are presented. The 3He(π±,π0p) reaction is dominated by the quasi‐free process. In the 3He(π−,π0p) reaction, at least two nucleons must be involved. Comparisons between coincidence and single‐arm measurements from this work and with previous measurements of charged pion scattering on 3He are shown. These comparisons are used to determine the relative strength of single‐nucleon and multi‐nucleon processes in a simple nuclear system.
