Demand Loading Analysis for a 3X NextGen Future

A demand loading analysis for a future 3X demand set was conducted in order to evaluate the impact of future Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) system requirements, Future, unconstrained demand loading for both National Airspace System (NAS) airports and airspace were analyzed using airport and airspace demand-to-capacity metrics resulting from the output of a future demand generation tool. The potential impact of both capacity-increasing concepts and potential demand changes were evaluated. The results suggest that 3X demand sets represent very demanding scenarios for future ATM concepts and that expected heterogeneous demand growth will result in required improvements to NextGen local airport and airspace capacities that are significantly greater than 3 times current levels.
