Competencies of high-performance logistics professionals in emerging economies

2018
This study sought to indicate the attributes that reflect the best performance and value of logistics professionals in emerging countries. We used the concept of individual competencies and the business-logistics-management model of skills and knowledge from Murphy and Poist (1991a) as a basis for building the framework. Data collection was conducted via a survey of logistics professionals in Brazil, and data analysis was done using structural equation modelling. Results indicated a positive relationship between education, skills, knowledge in management, logistics, performance, and value of the professional in the organisation. In contrast, the relationships between experience, skills, knowledge in business, performance, and value were not found to be significant per the statistical model. The merit of this research is primarily based on the use of a well-established theoretical concept of competency applied to define in practice which sort of logistics professionals have good performance and value in today's demanding market.
