A control study of behavior character of ADHD children with and without ODD

Objective To explore behavior character of ADHD children with and without oppositional defiant disorder(ODD).Methods 9495 children were sampled from six regions in Hunan Province by using two phase epidemiological design. Children were performed by investigators who administered the semi-structured schedule (K-SADS-PL)and the DSM-IV diagnoses criteria for ADHD and ODD.Parents completed Child Behavior Checkiist(CBCL) for Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) children.Normal children from negative screening were collected as control group. Results The result showed the subscales of behavioral problems were scored higher in ADHD without ODD group and ADHD with ODD group,ADHD with ODD obtained higher scores than ADHD without ODD on the CBCL aggressive behavior[(8.80±6.34)vs(6.85±5.69)],delinquent behavior[(4.10±3.17)vs(2.68±2.63)],externalizing[(12.90±9.09)vs(9.54±7.88)],total problems subscales.The subscales of social skills were scored lower in ADHD without ODD group,and there were significant differences.Conclusion Behavioral problems in children with ADHD than in normal children,behavior problems in ADHD with ODD are even more serious.
