Recent Chemical and Biological Control Measures for Rice Blast Dis Ease-review

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most important staple food crop consumed by half of the world population. The ascomycete fungus Magnaportheoryzae causes the devastating blast disease of rice which has been reported from almost all-major rice growing regions around the world. It is responsible for huge economic losses to farming community. Rice blast damages several thousand hectares of rice fields every year leading to severe economic losses. In the present review article, author highlights and discuss about the recent progresses made for controlling rice blast using chemical and biological methods. Advantages and disadvantages of both methods are also being discussed. Information so provided should help the farmers and breeders to systematically use the particular method to keep their rice crop healthy.
