A Wideband CPW-fed Stepped Monopole Slot Antenna for 5G Communications

This paper presents a super wide-band planar monopole slot antenna for 5G mobile communication bands from 22.97-35.04 GHz. The proposed antenna has a planar slot with a stepped monopole structure at its center that is fed through a Coplanar waveguide. The antenna has a peak gain of 5.7 dBi and radiation efficiency greater than 98%. The proposed antenna has a size of 8×8 mm 2 . An 8-element array configuration of the antenna provides maximum absolute gain of 14.9 dBi. The antenna array has an overall size of 8×64 mm 2 . Radiation patterns of the array has 3dB beam-width of as narrow as 9.2 degrees with side lobe level of -13.1 dB. The large bandwidth, high gain and small size of this antenna makes it a potential candidate for future 5G mobile phones and millimeter-wave communications.
